“Perhaps a small challenge.” He wanted to get back at them for what they’d done. But on the other hand, he was grateful he ended up here, with her. He’d see where his mind was in a day or two, when he had a chance to digest tonight, to see where things ended up.
He shivered slightly as her fingers ran through his hair. The could of the rain or just the power of her touch he wasn’t entirely sure. His gaze locked on hers and it was taking everything in him not to kiss her properly. It didn’t matter how much he wanted the contact, the intimacy, what mattered to him was her. And she had set a boundary that they were already dangerously close to, if not already stepping on. He gently massaged the small of her back as he tried to master his impulses. He barely had a second to return her smile when she kissed him. He froze for a split second before returning the kiss, every bit of restraint slipping away. The kiss only lasted a brief moment before she pulled away with an apology. As she finished the apology she paused, hesitated, and he dipped his head, meeting her lips with his and kissing her lightly, briefly, before forcing his heart to slow. His name drew his mind back to her and he forced himself to hear what she was saying, and not drift back to their first real kiss. One of many he hoped.
She admitted to being swept up in the power, her desire to wield it only topped by her feelings for him. Her feelings for him? He saw the blush rise in her cheeks, that admission came at a dearer price to her than the former. Letting your guard down on your ambitions was one thing, on your heart was completely another. And she had taken that chance on him. He nodded at her question. Did he feel it? How could he not. She had taken everything he thought he knew about his heart and turned it on its head. “You have managed to intrigue me and capture my attention from the first few moments in the Great Hall. The more time I spend with you, the more time I need to be by your side. Almost like you and I are two halves of a whole, one that when together burns so intensely that nothing can extinguish it.” He pressed lightly on the small of her back, drawing her closer, needing her touch to quiet the burning in his chest and still the rush of thoughts. He bent his head, his lips finding hers. A hand leaving the small of her back to caress her cheek. He let the kiss linger longer than the first, but not long enough to fully satiate his desire. He held her cheeks lightly in his hands and rested his forehead against hers. “Yn Fy Nghalon Am Byth.” He whispered before drawing her into the protection of his embrace.

Anneli felt his body freeze before melting into her kiss. Her mind was stilling, the former thoughts of harsh boundaries becoming blurry in the night. He had been more supportive in the past few days than some of her lifelong friends. There was a true desire to be around him, instead of entertaining or meeting on brief occasions. Anneli’s willpower for friendship steadily faded as he kissed her again, however brief, it was sweet. She wished then that she could drop all past defenses and kiss him again, more deeply.
His nod ‘yes’ brought her mind to an ease. Anneli had been so guarded within herself that she often 'failed' to see when others truly liked her or not. This time felt different. A potent chemistry had been realized upon their first meeting in the Great Hall, a friendship and commonality in their banter in the Room of Requirement. And now this, an Unforgivable Curse and first kiss in the Forbidden Forest. Though she was hesitant to place a label on the feeling, or relationship, any time soon. She would need to be smart, even if the feeling of his hair between her fingers made her involuntarily shiver.
Anneli felt waves crashing down around her and then steadily bringing her out to a calm sea as she listened to his words. She stood there, mesmerized by the beautiful honesty of his words. It took her. His sentiments were a reflection of her own heart. Two halves to one whole. Anneli struggled with that notion, a life of forced independence creating an impenetrable confidence of being whole within herself. She weakened at the words one that when together burns so intensely that nothing can extinguish it. It had been true thus far. Whenever they were together, there was an intensity that wouldn’t allow itself to be put out. His presence was becoming like air.
Her skin warmed as she felt his hand at her back. Anneli stood there motionless, though madly dancing inside, as he took her in for another kiss. This one more deep than the first. She could feel her heart opening then, as if his kiss had found the key she purposely lost so long ago. A flutter run through her and she embraced him back, "Loce.." Anneli said softly, in between parting their mouths for a moment, hoping endlessly that she could pause this moment.
She gazed into his eyes as he spoke in Welsh, her cheeks soft under his touch. Anneli wondered what they might mean before being drawn into his embrace. The entire world felt still, peaceful even yet. There hadn't been many moments she had felt like this, if ever. She placed her head at his chest, knowing she would only have this memory and the sound of his heartbeat until they met again...

Loce held his breath for a moment as she leaned against him once again, leaning into his embrace. He tried to force his heart to slow enough that he could formulate a rational thought, but there was no stopping it, not tonight. One hand came to rest, gently on the small of her back, the other drawing light circles on her back. The initial frenzy of emotion between them subsided, but not the undercurrent. Like embers that would only need a bit of prodding to flare again. He smiled at the thought, but content just to hold her, keep her close. “Fy nghalon, my heart” He whispered softly, wondering if she understood how much she truly meant to him in this moment. Something turned for him tonight, with her. He saw a flash of potential. He began to understood the wistfulness he’s seen over and over in his Grandmother’s eyes whenever she spoke of his grandfather. He never wanted to let her go, to keep her there with him forever. There was a small surge of possessiveness that swept over him, but he pushed it aside, he would have to keep that in check. The last thing she needed was someone else trying to dictate her life to her. “Anneli…” He hesitated, then smiled down at her. “Trust me with your heart and I will guard it as fiercely as you do.”.

Anneli stood shaped to him, her body no longer stiff as stone. She had never felt quite as understood, at home with someone else. It was intoxicating just as it was dangerous. She had already let him enter if not exit with some of her heart. She sighed softly, savoring the moment. Anneli hadn’t been expecting Loce when he came along, Now here she was clinging to every moment with him, hoping it would never be her last. The swirls of his fingers tracing circles into her back. A shiver down her spine.
“Fy nghalon.” She repeated, though this time not to test the accuracy of her accent. Anneli reflected ‘my heart’ to him, her feelings touching the words. She hadn’t believed in the emotion now swelling in her chest until then. Anneli had heard of love through Ludvig’s many travellers, though always thought it a tale. Her father and Sophia showed no true affection. Though in the dark forest with Loce’s arms around her, the feeling didn’t feel like a tale for fools anymore. There was something almost tangible between them. As if you could reach out and feel a current between their bodies…
“Trust me with your heart and I will guard it as fiercely as you do.” Anneli could feel her heart then. Trust wasn’t a skill she had mastered yet, and the practice of it had made her weary. She had lost the ability to trust for quite some time. A dragon’s burn had taken that away from her. But here and now – with him. He captivated her, brought her to life. Loce had slipped into her life like he had always been there. It terrified and enthralled her.
Anneli leaned up to touch his face for the first time, studying the arches along his cheeks and jaw. Memorizing the lines which created such a handsome, tall boy. She thought to herself then that she might be attracted to Loce despite his looks, if they hadn't captured her entirely already. Anneli wondered for a moment if he would still want that picture together. She traced his lips with her finger, gazing up at him before stepping to kiss him again. “I trust you.” Anneli said softly as she pulled away, looking into his eyes with a hopeful gleam. She was the fiercest defender of herself, letting someone else take up some of that position almost felt unnatural. Fergus had never managed to, anyway. Anneli continued to gaze at him, squeezing his hand gently before saying softly, “We should go,” eyeing the darkening skies above them.
She couldn’t be entirely sure what they were at that moment. All she knew is that she had been entirely consumed, both by the power of the curse and the natural, intoxicating pull she had toward Loce…

Loce let out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding when she repeated his admission. Because that was exactly what it was. If he it wasn’t for the fact that they barely knew each other, he would say without a doubt he was falling in love with her, hard. But she held her heart in his hands, there was nothing he could do bout it. Not that he wanted to. There was something so strong between them, something he couldn’t place. But something that couldn’t have felt more right. He knew he was asking a lot, asking her to trust him. They barely knew each other. But at the same time, he knew that there was nothing he wouldn’t do to protect her. Nothing. There was something beyond them like they had known each other before. Like their souls had walked this path before in another life. He wished he could put into words exactly what was between them. But did it really matter? They were here, together. She had let him in enough for him never want to be without her. He leaned into her touch, smiling softly at her. She kissed him again, and his heart soared. She said she trusted him, him. He almost couldn’t believe it. How did he get so lucky? Beautiful, yes, absolutely, but what made him fall hard was just her… Her passions mirrored his, for a lot of things. He didn’t think he wanted to write to Jackson anymore, he wanted to keep her to himself. At least for now. But he still wanted a picture, the two of them together. Something he could keep close to his heart when she physically couldn’t be there in his arms. He squeezed her hand, then shifted his to interlace his fingers with hers. “Probably, but it doesn’t mean I want to.” He answered, following her gaze into the rain. “I wish we had a camera, I want to remember you forever just as you are now.” Soaked completely through, she was never more beautiful to him. If only because she was here, with him, standing in the rain, because she wanted to be with him. Him. “Can I walk you back to the dorm?” They were going the same way, but he wasn’t sure where they stood. But as far as he was concerned, he wanted her to be his girlfriend. “You are already my heart, will you be my gril?” Somehow he needed to hear it, needed to formalize it in his own mind. In his heart he already knew it was true, but his mind needed to hear her confirm it.

Anneli’s chest swelled with a feeling of lightness as he interlaced his fingers with hers. It felt like being a kid again, running and laughing through a field with absolutely no inhibition. But this was deeper, more mature, a new place was being steadily carved out in her heart as they stood there together. The forest was not menacing at all in his presence, in fact it looked beautiful. Exciting.
She smiled up at him, “I couldn’t be rushed out of here.” Anneli asserted, squeezing his hand. Her hair was now soaked almost completely to her head, wet strands dancing around the sides of her face. Her eyelashes were damp over a pair of blue sapphire eyes gazing up at him. A smile was playing at her lips, still fresh from him.
Warmth soared to her cheeks. She had been called beautiful before, harassed even, but never truly seen. Loce was different. He saw her. “You won’t need a camera,” She said, her voice delicate in between the pattering of rain. “You’ll remember me here just as I am now,” Anneli said, moving to gently hold his hand to her wet chest. “As I will remember you here as you are now.” She placed a hand on his chest then, “Always, mitt hjärta, my heart.” Anneli moved to kiss him, unable to help herself. She winked, "Though on our next date, I expect a camera." Her smile now enchanting.
“Let’s go.” Anneli smiled at him again, just about to turn on her heel as she heard his question. It disarmed her for a moment, her body tensing as her heart soared above and into the night sky. It was all she could have asked for, the proposal to be his girlfriend. Loce had inspired her, pushed and comforted her in all the right spots. He was everything she desired and more and yet…a tug came from within her mind. Slow down, guard yourself.
“Loce, I..” Anneli breathed, wishing he'd stop her right there with a kiss. “I didn’t expect to be confronted with the feelings I’ve had tonight. No one has ever come close to touching my heart, and I’m sure few if any at all ever will again.” She said honestly, gazing at him and squeezing his hand again. “This is not a rejection, just a matter of needing some…time admittedly. I don’t want anything to tamper with these new feelings, and I worry a label might.” She felt utterly foolish at her core saying these words. Anneli wondered if Loce could see straight through her then.
“I thought about you every night since we met in the Room of Requirement, Loce.” She admitted, speaking softly, “There are few people I think about often and yet I wondered every day until our meeting tonight what you might be up to…” Anneli frowned, looking at him, “I’m not trying to lead you on. I’m not going anywhere, Loce. I wouldn’t want to do anything to jeopardize…us.” Her core burned, wanting to release the inhibition. She said us. Anneli rarely used these words in her solitary thoughts. Us. Could Loce be her boyfriend? He already felt like something more. And in such a short period of time. “I wouldn’t say we’re merely friends either. Perhaps...dating?” Anneli felt like she was floating above herself saying this. Her original answer to his question being, Of course I will be. Am I not already?
Anneli gazed up to him, hoping he might call her out on how ridiculous she was being. In her heart she knew she was, as her heart already belonged to him. She could feel his protective embrace and didn't want to be released. It was best to savor this new feeling. To savor him and to flow with whatever they bloomed into. To take things 'slow' if that were even possible at the rate they were at... At least, that’s what she told herself.

Loce returned her smile, and reached out, tucking the whisps of hair behind her ears. “Given how wet we are, I don’t know if they will even let us back in the castle. And as much as I don’t want the night to end, we should probably get you back so you can get a nice warm bath before you catch your death.” He couldn’t help but laugh at his own statement. It was something that his gran would have said. At least he knew where he got his overprotective tendencies from. His heart leapt as she spoke, placing his hand on their chest in turn. “Mitt hjärta” he repeated as she cut him off with a kiss. He returned her kiss softly, the fever of their initial kiss slowly settling to a familiar passion that caught in his chest and burned stronger than ever. Next date? Why did that catch him off guard? Was this a date? It hadn’t been intended as one when they started, but given how the night had gone… yes it most certainly had become one. “I’m sure we can arrange that.” He leaned in and lightly kissed her forehead. His need to be close overwhelming. Loce, I… Apprehension filled him, something in her tone, her eyes darkened slightly, she mentally took a step back. He had overreached. He was trying to think of something to say but was drawn in by her admissions. Not a rejection That was typically the beginning of one, at least in his experience in it was. But the more she spoke the more his heart rallied. She was just scared, that was all. Scare of getting hurt. He wanted to say something, to stop her, to just kiss her and draw her back into his embrace. But he needed to let her speak, let her voice her fears. She’d thought about him every night? That would explain why he couldn’t sleep and had been totally consumed by thoughts of her. Not that he minded at all. He winked at her as she opted for the term dating to describe them. He cleared his throat, then met her gaze, brushing his hand lightly over her cheek and then cupped her cheek in his hand. “So, the strong, brilliant, beautiful, independent woman is afraid of a label?” he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Anneli, does the label change anything? I mean… We are together, for better or worse. My heart belongs to you.” He winked at her, shaking his head slightly. “Dating is fine, if it makes you comfortable.” He leaned in and kissed her nose, then rested his forehead against hers. “And just so you know, I don’t plan on giving anyone else the opportunity to get anywhere close to touching your heart.” He smiled. He honestly was okay with whatever label she wanted to put on them, it didn’t change the fact that he was hers, and she was his. “Mitt hjärta” She was his heart, he hadn’t planned it, but here they were, and he was content to know that.

Her body warmed despite the chill that clung to her robes. She smiled as he suggested going for a bath, each word he spoke making her head swirl. Anneli couldn’t remember the last time someone had suggested something as kind as a bath after the cold. Simple as it was. She floated within this unfamiliar territory, pushing skeptical thoughts out from her mind and pulling him closer instead.
A blush rose to her cheeks as he said Mitt hjärta, a perfect reflection. Anneli reveled in his closeness, wondering if she would be able to part with the power of it. He confirmed arranging a second date, though this had never intended to be the first. She smiled warmly, “I look forward to it.” Her heart stilling and speeding up again as he kissed her forehead. Anneli couldn’t have imagined anyone this close, and yet he so naturally slipped in.
She waited still as he turned to answer her. Anneli didn’t want to lose this, didn’t want to lose him. She knew that she wasn’t the easiest person to win over, but with him, she wanted to be. She wanted to be open. Anneli tugged at the corner of her robe briefly, though never releasing his gaze.
“Afraid?” She chuckled, raising an eyebrow at him and looking to his lips, “I’ve been afraid before. This…is true fear.” Anneli said softly, refusing to compromise honesty with him. “Looking at you now, Loce, I’ve never felt this way. You are unbelievable to me, like I might turn around and you’ll disappear…” She paused, frowning at the thought and wishing she could stop herself, “Taking time to come into that ‘label’ might help quell some of the fear I have. Though, you are one of the first people in a long time to make me feel..safe.” She was earnest, unafraid to advocate for herself but wishing miserably to be his, fully. Regardless of how little the label truly meant.
She smiled warmly as he kissed her nose, a wave of heat spreading from the kiss. Anneli caressed his face softly, “It makes me comfortable, for now.” She said, a hint of mischief reaching her eyes, “It also makes me curious as to what you’ll have planned for our second date.” Anneli winked at him, laughing and squeezing his hand. None of this had turned out as expected, thankfully.
Anneli was at peace, her forehead resting against his. She laughed as he said he wouldn’t let anyone get the opportunity to get close to her heart. “Impossible,” She said softly. Though it had been impossible to get close before him, now it was for different reasons. Anneli had given it to him, untamed and unfamiliar with the rush of emotions in her. “I’d love to see them try.” She winked at him, kissing his cheek.
Anneli melted upon hearing Mitt hjärta again. He was hers. She, his. She took his hand, looking up to him with a seductive look painting her blue eyes, "Will you lead the way?" Anneli challenged him with a soft smile. He had lead her into the unknown. She would trust him to lead her anywhere, even if she knew the path back to the castle by heart herself.

Loce listened, stilled by her admission of fear. He frowned, he wanted to find everyone that had ever hurt her and make them suffer for it. Even if he knew at least two of them were her blood. He already disliked her father and uncle, disliked Fergus…With her father and uncle he knew it was them he didn’t like. With Fergus, he wondered how much was Fergus, and how much was jealousy? Jealousy was a new emotion to him… right along with whatever the emotion was that surged in response to her every look and touch. Maybe love, maybe not… yet… but something else that did not need a label to exist.
He slipped an arm around her, letting his hand come to rest on the small of her back, but refusing to release her other hand. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone either. And yes, I understand your fear. You… you are so far out of my league, and yet here you are by my side. But I promise you, I’m real and I’m not going anywhere. His smile was soft, and earnest. “I am glad you feel safe with me. You will always have a home here in my arms. Always.” Even once you do realize you are so much more than I could ever deserve.
“Take all the time you need to be comfortable with whatever label we use. Or just not label us at all. We’ve got plenty of time for labels, life seems to label everything anyway. I’m sure it will be giving us one of its own. I know where my heart stands, and I know where yours stands. That is fine for me.” He was trying to ease her fears enough, but fears were harder to heal than physical injuries.
He chuckled as she mentioned the second date and what he would have planned. He had an idea or two, but would need to work out the details.
“Lets just hope there are not too many brave, or foolish, souls that will try. I’m not sure I can keep my wand hand empty, depending on the circumstances.” He thought briefly of Fergus’ actions in Transfiguration.
He squeezed her hand as she asked him to head her back. He nodded and winked at her. Hoping he could at that. He pulled his wand. “I’ll do my best. Let’s get you back before you are missed.” He said as he led her back into the darkening shadows of the forest and back towards the castle.

Anneli chuckled, “And here I was thinking you were out of mine.” She admitted truthfully, thinking of the handwritten annotations in his books, his steady wand movement through Imperio…the perfect arch in his jawline…the dreamy gaze of his eyes. It had been the first time she had met someone she would consider out of her league. Though not entirely superficial, she understood objectively that they were both attractive. And yet, there was so much more. She wouldn’t be molded to him if there wasn’t. Anneli closed her eyes and allowed herself to breathe into him as he told her she was safe there. A home in his arms was created then and there, one that she wouldn’t let anyone make her part from. Not even her father.
She nodded softly, her head against his chest. The label would form in time, though there was one word creeping into her mind right now. Love. It felt so natural to feel and think that, all rational thoughts leaving her. Time, she thought, time...There had been so much she had yet to tell him, identity-shattering news from her family. But the night was growing, and their time together ending too soon once more.
Anneli laughed softly, “Plenty of the brave and foolish,” She paused, “You’ll find I have suitors, none that I give any time of day or thought to. I’m not one for the attention, but it seems to follow me…” This had been an ongoing problem for her, one that may lie more ingrained into her blood than she cared to acknowledge. “As long as I can hold your attention, I’m happy.” She said simply, revealing a warm smile up to him. Anneli leaned into his hands at her back.
She took his hand softly and gazed at him for one last moment in the forest, in the rain. His hair wet and his tall, muscular form rising above her. Anneli smiled, following his lead back into the shadows, thoroughly unaware that she had just fallen deeply, madly in love with him...
