Cordelia glances over as Fergus moves to occupy the seat next to her, she nods her head politely as he sits. “Hello.” She greets. While yes, Cordelia was much closer with Anneli and did not like the relationship that Fergus and her had… Cordelia has always been on good terms with Fergus. Plus she was never hesitant to call him out on his bullshit. That helped. She rolls her eyes at his question. Snakes, honestly… not her favorite.
She doesn’t have to answer though because professor Ghica steps forward and begins to speak. Immediately Cordelia straightens and flips that little switch inside her that turns on Prefect, good, attentive student mode. For this class in particular, she found it important to be as present as possible. Professor Ghica asks about the Gorgon’s main defense and her hand lifts delicately into the air. Really? Wasn’t it obvious?
“Well, it’s imperative to never look a Gorgon in the eye at any time.” Cordelia says, “Or accept your fate: petrification.” She glances at the blindfolded creature. If the binding slips even the tiniest bit, this truly could be the most interesting class of the year. She returns her gaze to the professor, “Looking at a gorgon turns the viewer to stone.” She says more clearly.
Maybe her own mother was part Gorgon… she always seemed to have an immobilizing effect on Cordelia whenever she looked at her. She smirks at the internal dry-humored thought.

Loce nodded at Cordeia’s answer then raised his own hand. “In addition to the petrification, the snakes are venomous. One bite can kill a man in a matter of minutes.” He always thought the snakes were a great secondary defense. It was hard to sneak up behind her. He wasn’t very fond of having Fergus behind him, out of view. But there was nothing that could be done now. Next class, back row. The good thing, Professor Ghica was super observant and… if he could hazard a guess, would not let anything happen to one of his students during class. Loce leaned closer to Anneli, resting his hand on the back of her chair and tracing small circles on her back. He kissed her cheek and straightened up a bit in his chair. If Fergus wanted to stare at them, he’d give him something to look at.

He smirked as Cordelia answered. Correct, of course. Fergus typically would not associate himself with anyone who didn't have some interest in the dark arts...though, maybe if only for romantic interest. Loce's answer was correct as well. If for nothing else, at least they might gain some house points. Fergus had left a Prefect meeting to see the House Cup points in the corridor. Gryffindor was in the lead despite their Quidditch match win. His competitive spirit wouldn't allow for it.
"Professor Valko," He raised his hand, waiting to be called on, "Is it true that not all Gorgons possess the qualities of a petrifying gaze and venomous snakes? I believe I read somewhere that the Gorgon must be a daughter born through Medusa's lineage." Fergus thought this might be relevant, especially if there was a way to distinguish between the two.
His eyes flickered to Gwen, she was entrenched in her notes and talking with Isla. He thought she looked pretty sitting there. His gaze moved across the room until it fell back upon Loce. Fergus could feel his blood boil. He wouldn't show it outwardly, but it picked away at him. Though Fergus had started to expand his horizons again, there were still a lot of complicated feelings. For one, Fergus hated the fact Loce had managed to swoop in and charm Anneli so quickly. It had taken him a full year just to manage talking to her properly. They had only been together for a short, valued time. Their break-up had sadly coincided with the commencing of his parent's plan of betrothment. His eyes narrowed as he caught him tracing her back...touching her skin. His hand moved around his wand but only for a second before retracing. This wouldn't be the place for that.
Fergus sighed. That was over for now. But it wouldn't be forever. He had received some positive news from his parents and Halvar. Christmas in his homeland sounded nice, especially with the extra company. And especially if he could gain access to some more information about the cellar by then.

Dragomir listened as Ms. Burke discussed the Gorgon’s power to turn people to stone, nodding. “Correct. That is their most powerful offensive move. And the one that tends to stop people in their tracks. Five points to Slytherin for Ms. Burke’s quick and correct response.” He called on Loce to expound, and he presented the venomous snakes that struck from their head. He nodded, their second most powerful offense. “Correct Mr. Vaisey. Another Five points to Slytherin for Mr. Vaisey’s additional correct answer.
“Gorgon’s blood is also a valuable weapon. It is said that blood from the left side of the body has the power to bring back the dead. Although I have yet to see any proof to that tale. On the other hand, blood taken from the right side of the body is supposed to bring as immediate a death as the venom from the snakes. Gorgons are not beings to be taken lightly when one comes across them. Especially when not secured as this one is. They have healing powers that rival any magical creature.” He walked slowly back and forth in front of the Gorgon’s cage. He could hear her fight against the restraints. She was secure enough. If he went through with the practical stage of the class, he'd have to have the Hospital Wing on alert just in case. “Their biggest weakness is the fact that they can turn themselves to stone. Therefore, the best offense against them is a shiny surface. With their healing properties, the only way to truly kill one is to behead them.”He nodded at Mr. Reinhardt giving him permission to speak. “Yes Mr. Reinhardt, that is true. Although unless you know for sure what you are up against, I would suggest assuming the worst. The blood of any of them will kill you. Those that do not have snakes, obviously lack that defense. But it does not mean they cannot petrify you. It is mostly the men who lack the snakes and/or the ability to petrify, but not all men will lack the ability to petrify. I have yet to hear of or come across a male with snakes though, so that seems to be a female only trait.”
He glanced around the room, watching students take notes and paused to give them to finish. “Can anyone tell me where the most likely place to find a gorgon would be?” He asked, attempting to draw others into the conversation.

Gwen sat nervously in her seat, her heart thudding in her chest as she watched Professor Ghica and the real-life Gorgon in the classroom. The Gorgon was restrained and blindfolded, but Gwen couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as she gazed at the creature's scaly skin and writhing snakes. It was a rare opportunity to study a Gorgon up close thought, and Gwen was intrigued.
Gwen's hand raised hesitantly, "Is it true Gorgons are known to dwell near the ocean?" Gwen asked, her voice not as confident as she wished. She couldn’t recall where she’d heard that info, so she wasn’t sure of its accuracy. "I've also heard that they are said to guard the entrance to the underworld." Now that was an interesting concept.
As Professor Ghica continued his lecture, Gwen tried to focus, but her mind kept wandering to the Gorgon in front of her. She couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and fear at the creature's presence. She could see the faint outline of the blindfold covering the Gorgon's eyes, and it sent a chill down her spine to think of the power that lay within those eyes.

Isla listened attentively to Professor Ghica. He was quickly becoming one of her favorite Professors, even if the subject wasn't. She glanced to the gorgon as she swished from within her barrier. Isla raised her hand then lowered it as Gwen was faster. She winked at her friend, leaning in, "Nice." Isla said, giving her props for the quick answer. She had a lot of Gryffindor pride this year. Not only was she a Seeker and Prefect this year, but her entire family were Slytherin. In a way, she wanted to prove them wrong. Securing the house cup might be a good way. Isla buried herself in her notes again, wishing she knew more about gorgons before coming to class.

Drake nodded as Ms. Shaw answered. “Correct. Both answers are correct. There are some known to dwell in cliffs by the seas, and others rumored to guard the entrance to the underworld. While we have proven the first to be true, I have yet to find anyone who can support the latter. However it is a plausible location and profession or a Gorgon given their strengths and ties to other creatures.” He looked at the gorgon and then back to the class. “Next class will be a practical class on how to fight a gorgon. I suggest taking the time to prepare by reading up on the most practical ways to approach the task at hand. You will be paired up as a precaution, and there will be enough remedy on hand should you find yourself petrified. Snakes will be milked prior to class so there will be little to no venom to harm you, although anti-venom will also be on hand should anyone be bitten.” He supposed he might receive a howler or two from parents if and when the information made it back to them. But, if the kids were never exposed, then how could they test their abilities? “You are excused, enjoy the rest of your day. And, Ms. Shaw, Five points to Gryffindor for a fine answer.”
