Anneli didn’t need to think long on her choice. She had learned to vanish mice last year, now was time for a challenge. Her uncle had prepared her with some handy vanishment practice, even if the lessons were self-serving to him. She furrowed her brow, wishing to banish him from her thoughts all together for now.
She smiled as Loce froze the owl in place. “Fy nghariad clyfar,” Anneli laughed, winking at him. She meant it too. His skill level was far beyond most of their classmates. Anneli’s eyes widened with pride as the owl vanished in front of them leaving just a feather behind.
Anneli took the feather, casting it up in the air and reconjuring the owl. The barn owl cast a curious look to Anneli. She picked up her wand, “Evanesco!” Anneli looked at her desk curiously. A pile of spotted feathers were left in its place. She shrugged, figuring a trio of feathers might be accepted. Anneli noted to herself to practice on bigger targets next time.

Loce returned her wink. She was always complimenting him, and he had yet to get used to it. He didn’t think he ever would, as he didn’t truly think he deserved her attention in the first place. He watched as she reconjured the owl, then made it disappear again. He hoped the headmistress had been watching, he was beyond proud of her abilities. Unfortunately, her skills would be needed and tested beyond anything their classes would throw at them. He frowned slightly, then caught sight of Fergus. He chuckled. “Tror du att vi två kan få honom att försvinna?” He asked, curious, but willing to give it a shot. Maybe not in class… but… He chuckled and gave into the impulse to kiss her cheek.

Isla grinned as Ameryn approached her, "Hey Ameryn, of course! No need to ask." She laughed quietly, happy to have a mate with her in class. They were teammates but not close friends yet. Isla had a feeling the two might get along off the pitch as well. Her family might be horrified about her befriending a girl like Ameryn. She was disorganized, boisterous, and friendly. Not really the lot they ran with. She smiled as she retrieved the paper effortlessly. "Hi. You're amazing." She said earnestly, smiling at her. She turned her attention to Professor Gunvald as she spoke. Isla liked her. She seemed very maternal and wise, even though she was fairly sure the Headmistress did not have children of her own. Isla looked to her options. If she was being honest with herself, mice were probably more her speed. She was definitely above the snail skill level at least. Isla conjured one of the mice, settling it in front of her. "Let's see how this goes..." She said quietly, pulling out her wand. "Evanesco!" Isla asserted. Isla looked down to her desk to see a small mouse tail still remaining. She furrowed her brow, leaning to whisper to Ameryn, "Do you think that will be good enough on the O.W.L.S?" She almost laughed.

Ameryn gins at Isla's compliment."Oh, I'll accept any and all compliments. Thank you very much." She chuckles.
Ameryn hops up and debates her options here. She casts a quick glance around the room and realizes that no one has chosen the snail. She presses her mouth into a thin line as she decides. Was it more embarrassing to choose the snail even though no one else has? Even if she felt that was genuinely where she should begin? Or should she just grab a mouse and go for it, even if she fails entirely. She's never attempted Evanesco before, never practiced it.
Ameryn retreats to her seat, snail in hand. In the end she figured it would be best for her learning process to start where she felt she should. If she succeeded she'd gladly move onto the mouse. She places the snail down on the desk and then lowers her chin to the desk as well, resting it there for a moment. At eye level with the snail, she watches it glide across the surface slowly. "He looks like a Gerald, don't you think?" She chuckles again.
Ameryn sits up straight and watches Isla expertly disappear... most... of her mouse. Ameryn gives Isla a quiet golf-appropraite kind of applause. "I'd give you an 'O'" She says, "I mean," She looks at the tail and cocks her head to the side, "I don't see a mouse, do you?" A tail with no body is no mouse. A mouse with no tail? Still a mouse.
Ameryn turns her attention back to her own task, "OK Gerald, let's do this." She points her wand and steadys her hand movement. She clears her throat and, “Evanesco!”
One second the snail was there, the next. Poof. Gone. Ameryn smiles broadly, "Oh, wicked! Nice!" She says with a surprised laugh. She was proud of herself, "Bye Gerald." She says quietly, looking closely at the spot he'd just occupied. The slimpy trail still evident in the light of the room.

Post by Headmistress Isadora Gunvald on Apr 30, 2023 21:35:28 GMT -8
Professor Gunvald transformed into her magpie form. She had a much better overview of the class in this form, as well as better eyesight. Isadora had found that many of her students appreciated the feigned privacy versus their Professor hovering. She would not need to apply any true pressure yet. This was only an assessment of skill. Her wings flapped in anticipation, watching her students perform the vanishment spell. She watched Mr. Vaisey first. He had gone for the owl. A daring attempt. At times, he seemed more like a Gryffindor than a Slytherin to her. It was a ridiculous thought. The sorting hat had been accurate given time. And, considering his ties…Isadora nodded pridefully as he vanished almost all of the owl. Mr. Briarwood followed. Professor Gunvald noted that he went for the mouse. She appreciated a level of self-awareness. The options had been a challenge in more ways than one. Isadora watched as all but the tail vanished. Next as Ms. Oden. A student she had a unique interest in and a great concern for. Anneli was an anomaly in some ways. A young witch that would need a lot of guidance considering her family. Isadora had not yet been confronted with protecting a student so deeply. She watched with pride as the barn owls disappeared but a few feathers. Ms. Reinhardt took the stage next. Isadora admired the girl. As Gryffindor Seeker, she had made a splash during the first game. Professor Gunvald had been fed up with the boys, understanding that there was some mischief that led to Ms.Oden’s injury. Isla had emerged as a leader in her house as the lead organizer to the Homecoming Dance. Another mouse tail remained. She flapped her wings acceptingly. She watched as Ms. Davies selected a snail. Professor Gunvald examined her curiously. Isadora remembered her chant from the game. She was definitely an enthusiastic student which was admirable. The Headmistress nodded happily as the snail vanished completely. She believed in knowing one’s skill level. Isadora flew from the pillar overhead and transformed to her human form in a flash. “Thank you all for attending today. I am awarding an extra +5 points to Mr. Vaisey, Mr. Briarwood, Ms. Oden, Ms. Reinhardt, and Ms. Davies for their self-awareness in choice and participation.” She nodded for the students to exit. Isadora had a lot on her mind in recent times…
