Theo glanced at the old, ornate clock on the wall of the dusty, unused classroom, a bit bored. Sunlight filtered through grimy windows, casting faint rays of light onto the faded tapestries that hung lifelessly from the walls. It was a room that had long been forgotten by the bustling students, hidden away in a remote corner of the castle. The air was heavy with the scent of old books and magic, and a layer of dust lay thickly over the wooden desks and cobweb-covered corners.
Theo shifted in his seat, his Gryffindor robes rustling softly along the floor as he waited. He had sent an owl to Bellamy, an enigmatic Slytherin girl with raven-black hair and a reputation that preceded her. They had been assigned as partners in their last Charms class, and Professor Barnes had tasked them with perfecting the disillusionment spell together. It had been unexpected and his hopes of working with Isla were quickly dashed. She'd work with Boian, and Theo was admittantly jealous.
He knew very little about Bellamy. Their paths had rarely crossed before this Charms assignment. She moved in different circles, mingling with the Slytherin elite, while he found solace in the camaraderie of his fellow Gryffindors. The moments ticked by confirming his speculation: she wasn't going to show. "Figures." He was a bit annoyed for having reached out. Couldn't fault him for attempting to complete the assignment. He stood and began to collect his things, more than ready to return to his common room instead.
Theo was interrupted by the soft sound of the classroom door being pushed open...
