Character History:
Dragomir is the eldest child of Iacob Ghica, nephew of Alexandru Ghica the Prince of Walachia and Prince of Moldova. The Ghica family has direct lineage to Antonin Atticus. Like any Walachian wizard, Dragomir entered Durmstrang at the age of ten. His years at Durmstrang were mundane by other wizard standards, he made good grades, was a seeker for his house quidditch team and excelled at the dark arts and their defenses. After leaving Durmstrang, Dragomir spent time in the collection and trade of magical creatures.
In 1791, an uprising of magical creatures threatened the wizards in Walachia and Dragomir returned home to fight for his uncle and country. During the uprising Dragomir was recognized as a relative of the Prince and taken prisoner by a rogue group of vampires. As revenge for the way the Prince had sought to eliminate vampires from Walachia and Moldovia, Dragomir was transformed into a vampire. It was this transformation and his subsequent release that helped to end the uprising. Dragomir acted as a liaison between the Prince and the magical creatures and the ban on magical creatures was lifted in both countries.
Dragomir’s transformation gave him more access to the society of “dark” and magical creatures and he spent sixty years studying their various abilities, strengths and weaknesses. During this time he was taught legilimency and occlumency and has mastered them over the last century. After the formation of Romania, Dragomir left the communities to his family. However, being confined to the nighttime hours, he missed the ability to interact in normal wizarding society. Therefore, given his knowledge in the dark arts, and pulling on the knowledge he'd gained living in the different creature communities, he perfected a spell that would protect the user from sun damage. The spell takes decades to perfect, giving limited protection at first with almost natural immunity forming after some time. After a while the spell does not need to be recast, but still requires energy from the vampire. Dragomir attempted to make daywalking a natural part of the vampire condition, however during his time teaching others, he learned that this spell can fail unexpectedly leave the user extremely drained and unable to complete the most basic of spells. The user's inability to know when these draining effects will take place has resulted in the deaths of numerous vampires and his reluctance to attempt teaching the spell to others. To this day, the number of daywalking vampires remains around twenty-five.
