Dragomir smiled as Ms. Oden asked the follow-up question. Most would have held back given the time. But she seemed more interested in what answers he could provide rather than where she was off to next. He nodded, a cursory answer to her question. ”I have, more than once.” His eyes softened and he shook his head. ”It is not for the feint of heart. As the only thing keeping the vampire sentient, the soul of a vampire seems to be more closely bonded with the corpora form than in other sentient beings. The screams of the dying, for lack of better terms can be heard for miles and echoes in ones own soul. But watching the transformation from sentient being to instinct driven shell is… It is shattering, especially if they are someone you know. The effects are immediate and do not give the mortal wizard much time to react. The few times I have seen it, they attempt the killing curse a second time, figuring it had only weakened the vampire. By the time they rationalize their mistakes, it is too late.” He folded his hand together, took a breath then perched on the desk. ”At that point, you, as a vampire, have two choices. You destroy shell of the one you once knew, or you let him do as much damage as he is able before the sun ends him for you. The former is always the better choice, as hard as it can be to do.” He squeezes the bridge of his nose, then looks back up at those who remained in the class. ”This is a lesson you must carry with you as you decide your path of study. Every charm, every spell, every transfiguration has a consequence. Know what those consequences are before you cast anything. It could prove to be the last thing you do, or the last thing your friend does.” He hoped maybe that could temper any inclinations they had towards practicing outside the prescribed lessons. But knowing how he had been at their age, and starting to understand just how talented some of these students actually were, he was more hoping to save them some of the heartache he’d known over the centuries.
He nodded curtly as she asked if Mr. Vaisey could join them. ”Yes, I think that would be just fine. I will see you both in my office later then. “
