Ruby sat making use of the library's private study room. She knew that these were normally reserved for study groups, but she needed to be away from prying eyes and the extra space didn't hurt.
The stacks of books piled over the long banquet table as more bound paper mountains filled the corners of the room and wobbled precariously on each of the other five chairs. Reshelving them would take hours! But, if even one of them held answers it would be worth it.
Ruby needed to find out more about how magical bloodlines work. What about her father's line caused him to leave the magical community behind? Why did she carry her mother's maiden name rather than her father's name Dragomir. She scoffed, thinking that it certainly wasn't because Froll sounded better. This would have been so much easier had her father not been so tight lipped before he disappeared a few years back. She was surprised when her Muggle mother had agreed to let her go after showing her the acceptance letter that had popped up one day.
Marcell, her very first familiar ran across the heap of books to her left. "Hey, make yourself scarce. I don't know if mice are even allowed in here no matter how cute and I know that I am not even suppose to have you here at school yet" She put down the copy of "Notable Magical Names of Our Time." and looked at the mischievous furball with the obnoxiously long tale. Picking him up to slide him back into her pocket Ruby noticed the book her illegal companion had pushed open and was sitting on. "Nature’s Nobility: A Wizarding Genealogy" was the written in real gold on the cover and was easy to read as she tilted the book to see the front "What did you find?" On the page that had been chosen for her could be the answers she's hoped to find for years. Ruby started to loose herself in the long, dry and confusing family history being laid out . The only problem was, it wasn't HER family history. Not for the first time she felt overwhelmed. Could she do this on her own? Glancing at her watch caused a mild panic. "Tadpoll tails and snail shells!" Exacerbated, tired, and frustrated Ruby let her head drop to the table. "I give up" she mumbled to no one in particular.
