"Hey Reece," She greeted casually, welcoming him into the fold as they waited for class to begin. "If you have anymore bourbon biscuit cake, send some my way." Anneli smiled warmly. Her usual cool disposition quelled when comfortable around others. There had been some talk around around the castle about how she appeared 'intimidating'. Anneli couldn't deny that there was some truth to those claims. Her heart was gentle deep within it's core. She didn't know Reece well, but had taken notice that he kept his word to her on the dare. It wasn't usual for a 'typical' Slytherin to give without cost. It had been half a joke, but she was happy with his response nonetheless. Anneli smiled as she thought about his presentation of the cake to Cordelia. It had surprised her.
Loce grabbed her thigh as she settled. A rosy blush crossed her poised expression. "Dim teg." She winked at him playfully. Her gaze settled on Loce's drawings. She was attracted to the little things. Reading, drawing, making peanut butter and jellies. None required magic, yet they inspired magic in her. Anneli smiled warmly as she watched the second dragon of the heart appear on his parchment.
She took the drawing into her hands. Her eyes danced around the dragon heart. Their initials marked each dragon. Anneli traced the lines of the scales delicately, "Diolch fy nghariad," She breathed, at a loss of words for his thoughtfulness. They embodied the very dragons he drew in many ways. Anneli had never been one for gifts until he showed her what a true present was. It cost nothing yet sent her heart soaring. "I know the perfect place for this." She winked at him, tucking it into her bag carefully. A new prized possession.
The sound a Boston accent caught her attention. Anneli looked up to see an unfamiliar Hufflepuff with purple hair. "Nice to meet you, Jadis." Anneli greeted kindly. "Happy he has a fellow Bostonian in the castle...if that's what you call yourselves." She chuckled warmly, realizing she was out of her depth when it came to American culture.
Loce had opened Anneli up. She was becoming more warm towards others, though her guard reappeared once and a while. Anneli wasn't quick to drop her armor. She nodded in greeting as a Slytherin girl entered and greeted the classroom. Anneli believed her name to be Bellamy. She walked with confidence similar to hers and Cordelia. It might be nice to add another self-assured girl to the group. Anneli wondered mindlessly if she might want to join in on their girl's chat.

Loce chuckled as Anneli blushed. “All’s fair in love and war.” He laughs then leans closer to Anneli. “Men om du vill se mer av den här typen av orättvisa... Möt mig i ett av de tomma klassrummen efter lektionen.” He winked at her, sliding his hand the full length of her thigh before draping his arm over the back of her seat. He smiled at Anneli, “It is with you, it is already in the perfect place.” She always played at the corners of his mind and heart if she wasn’t center stage. Which he was the majority of the time. He’d have to be honest with that one. There was nothing and no body who could occupy his space and time like she could. He laughed when she called Jadis a fellow Bostonian. “Aye, or Masshole, depending. However Jadis is from this side of the Pond. She’s just mocking me a bit with the use of it, given the extent I went with it when I met her. You can hear the slight twang that is certainly not a native speech pattern if you listen enough."His attention was drawn to Bellamy as she spoke. “Hey Bellamy, come join the house pack?” He suggested, pointing out the empty seat next to Reece. “And have you met Anneli?” He asked, waiting for an acknowledgement of if they knew each other before starting unnecessary introductions. He was still at a disadvantage as he didn’t have five years of getting to know everyone in the house.

Boian strides into the Charms classroom, stretching to his full 6’2” frame. He carried himself with a nonchalant attitude that threatened to defy restrictive and uncared for rules. A messenger bag slung over his shoulder and hands tucked into his pockets, he surveyed the classroom for a place to sit. He hated these desks, he always seemed crammed in, uncomfortable. They were not anticipating students exceeding 6’ when they were designed back in the middle ages. He sighed and shrugged, heading towards the group of Slytherins in the back. May as well join his house and teammates. He notices Loce and Anneli talking to a Hufflepuff and rolls his eyes. Instead He turns to Bellamy, “Mind?” He asks, sliding into the seat next to her.

Ameryn Davies made her way down to the charms classroom, feeling excited for the first lesson. She hoped Aracely would be in the class too, she was feeling rather disconnected from her sister for the first time in a long time. Plus she'd heard great things about the Professor and Aracely was probably so excited for the opportunity to learn from someone with such qualifications.
She entered the classroom and her eyes quickly scanned the room: No Aracely. But, among the students, she spotted Ezra's smiling face. At this point, if she couldn't sit with Aracely, Ezra was a close second. Ameryn hurriedly made her way towards him, a smile spreading across her face.
"Wonderful to see you, Ezra." she greeted, her voice filled with warmth. "Mind if I sit here?" she asked, gesturing to the seat beside him and then plopping down into it. Aracely was hardly ever among the last to arrive to class, so if she wasn't here yet that likely meant she wasn't in this class. "If Aracely shows I will gladly relinquish the seat to her." She laughs and winks at her sister's boyfriend. Woo, it still made Ameryn smile a big goofy smile. Ezra seemed like a really good kid and he's made Aracely so happy... so in turn, he's made Ameryn happy too.

Post by Professor Juniper Barnes on Jun 2, 2023 13:24:41 GMT -8
Students had begun to mill about the classroom. Juniper kept one eye on her book and the other on the amounts of seats filling up. Once it progressed from one or two students to a good group settling in, she shuts her book and stands. "Good morning, all." Juniper welcomes. She looks to one student in particular who had addressed her beyond a simple 'morning' greeting, "Yes, I did attend Ilvermorny." She confirms with a smile, wondering why he had asked. She recognized him from Isadora and Drake pointed him out at the dance. Loce, the transfer student from the same school. Juniper runs her fingers along the desk as she walks around it, taps it once, and then pauses once in front. Her long legs still touch the floor as she leans, legs crossed at the ankles, on the desk. She lifts her wand and with a silent flick of the wrist the nearby chalk begins to elegantly scrawl onto the chalkboard: Charms is a required subject for all students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The spells learned in this class will be used in daily life, all aspects of life, no matter what path you find outside of the castle walls.
Successfully casting a charm requires: concentration, precise wand movements, and proper pronunciation of the spell's incantations
Required Texts ‘The Standard Book of Spells’ ‘Achievements in Charming’ Juniper clears her throat to initiate further silence among the students, “Welcome to Charms.” She smiles, “You are not first-year students. Nor are you new to classroom etiquette or this subject. I expect a level of professionalism from each and every one of you.” She starts, making eye contact with various students. Juniper stands straight again and casually begins to stroll up the main floor between the desks as she continues, “These lessons are meant to be practical. This class will be noisy and at times chaotic and you will need to hone your ability to block out the world in order to accomplish your tasks.” She turns after nearing the end of the walkway and heads back toward her desk slowly, "In preparation for today, I had spent some time reviewing some example syllabi. Most of which all suggested I begin with simple refresher spells..." She explains, "Vermillious, Accio, Colloportus... Yes, all useful."
She reaches her desk again and leans back onto it with a sigh, "But basic." Juniper wanted to jump right into the material they were supposed to learn this year, not review stuff from years past. "So, I am opting to skip that, unless there are any objections from you all?" She looks around at the faces in the room, each one seeming attentive and capable. After a momentary pause, meant to offer the chance for stunts to object if they wanted to-- but honestly she would be surprised if anyone did-- "If many of you seem to struggle, I will have to scale back expectations and... readjust." Juniper had high hopes. If they all did well, she planned to carry on with O.W.L level assignments.
"The charm we will be working on first requires both finesse and focus. It bestows a very particular sensation when cast correctly… like something cold and wet trickling down your back." Juniper smiles a little, excited to start with a spell that could prove useful in varying situations. “Can anyone tell me what they think it might be? Or anything else about it?”

Loce nodded as she answered his question and he scribbled a quick note on his parchment to Anneli as she stood to address the class. Her picture is hanging in the Ilvermorny trophy room, not to mention most of the upper class boy’s dorms. He smirked and shook his head. This could be an interesting class after all. He’d never followed dueling, but if she was as good as Ilvermorny made her out to be… He was glad she’d decided to skip the remedial refresher charm introduction class. Those charms were charms they used pretty much daily anyway. Struggle with charms? Who struggled with school level charms? He guessed there must be someone somewhere. She concluded with a question on a charm. He thought for a moment then raised his hand. He waited until he was called on before sitting up straight and offering an answer. “The Disillusionment charm. It mimics invisibility by changing the target’s color to match what they are standing in front of. When cast on someone it gives the feeling of something wet and cold running down ones back, and when removed or it wears of, the target has the sensation of something hot trickling down their back.” He slouches back into his seat, reaching for Anneli’s hand and glancing around to see if her cousin had joined the class.

Gwen watched as students filtered into the room. She beams at her friend Isla when she enters the room, but senses a little hesitancy from her. Was Isla truly upset over her growing closeness with Fergus? She sat with her head down, her hair obscuring her face. That definitely seemed off.
Gwen's eyes flash over to Theo. Oh. No... she wants to jump right up and steer Isla to the seat next to Theo but feels uncomfortable. "I'm so relieved to see you," Gwen says instead, a little awkwardly, but she means it. She twists to lean her arms on Isla's desk and smiles at her. "The classes we have together are my favorite, honestly." She says in a relieved tone.
Isla's friendship has meant the world to Gwen this year. The upcoming girl's night event should prove interesting. Gwen was looking forward to spending that time together. Doing real teenage-girl-esk type things, whatever that may entail.
"So..." Gwen attempts to get pull Isla's attention quietly, but at that moment Oliver O'Shea joins the group. Gwen sits up straight again and offers him a welcoming glance. "Hello."
More and more students join the class. She's about to ask Isla if Fergus might be in this class but, honestly thankfully, the professor moves and begins the class. Gwen shifts forward in her seat again with focused and ready eyes.
Something cold and wet trickling down your back... It sounded familiar but Gwen wasn't quick enough to recall the information before Loce Vaisey's hand raises and he's already answering the question. He's always among the first to answer. Her mouth falls into a slight pout, she'd wanted to earn their house some extra points but Slytherin snagged it.
Gwen raises her hand anyways, a moment later, and once called on, "Professor, is it true that on the rare occasion a Wizards with advance skill might be able to cast that charm so effectively they could render themselves completely invisible?" It would be a useful skill, Gwen supposed, but a potentially dangerous and scary one if used indecorously.

Jadis grins at Loce and Anneli. A rather tall boy, wearing Slytherin green with hair longer and more lustrous than her own strode into the room with an air of superiority. Jaids keeps her mouth shut. Not need to start any kind of confrontations here and now but the way he rolled his eyes at her invoked irritation and she has to stop herself from rolling her eyes also.
She focuses in again on doodling on her page instead until Professor Barnes stands and welcomed everyone to the class. Jadis noticed that she had an expression mixed of seriousness and delight. Her eyes seemed to be scanning the room, for troublemakers, perhaps? Jadis had anticipated Professor Barnes to begin the class by reviewing some basic charms theory, which Jadis would find interesting enough. But, to her surprise, she proceeded to express a desire to skip anything like that and jump right in. The Disillusionment charm? Jadis had never attempted that one before.
Jadis focused on what Loce had answered and then what a Gryffindor girl had added. Jadis wished she knew anything about the charm to contribute... but nope. It was a new one to her. Maybe she needed to take her readings a bit more seriously. She grimaced at her own disinterest in magical readings. Often times music took up the most of her attention.

Bellamy happily opts to sit near her fellow Slytherins. She give a wave by wiggling all of her fingers in the direction of Loce Vaisey and Anneli Oden. She has a feeling this is going to be the most interesting year yet and she could practically vibrate with excitement.
There was a time when Hogwarts was ripe with chaos and precariousness but that seemed to have all ended with the battle of Hogwarts. Obviously, for the best. Good triumphing over evil and all that... Although some families, very tight-lipped and secretive families, disagree with that notion... But damn if Bellamy wasn't itching for a little adventuring herself and ever since her conversation with Loce Vaisey, she thought maybe there was finally potential for something outside of the norm to happen.
Another Slytherin enters the room and slides into the seat next to her she nods an acknowledgement in his direction and eyes him up and down but remains quiet. And, just in time for Professor Barnes to begin the class. Bellamy leans into her seat comfortable and happily observes. She is immediately intrigued by the manner through which Barnes begins the class. Charms had promise yet.

Post by Theo Cole on Jun 13, 2023 20:23:58 GMT -8
Theo's attention snaps to a foreign object landing on the desk before him. It's clearly labeled: invigoration. Theo throws a grateful smirk in Loce's direction. He mouths a silent, "Thanks" before picking it up and twisting it between his fingers.
Theo inspecting the liquid for a brief moment before ultimately throwing it back in one quick sip. He feels the effects take hold almost instantaneously. Like the fog of tiredness is lifted. He gives his head a swift shake and releases a deep breath. Now, with a renewed sense of readiness, not just this class but for the day ahead, Theo smiles warmly at Isla.
She smiled in his direction and greeted him but quickly drops her head to use her hair as a shield.
He frowns, not sure why she'd give him the cold shoulder. His brows furrowed as he waits for her to look back up but she steadily gazes down at her own parchments. He debates leaving it alone for now, giving her the space she clearly wanted.
But then he saw his own hand reaching out toward her, without even thinking about it honestly.
Theo brushes his fingers along the side of her head, pushing that long red hair back behind her ear so he could see her face. "There you are." He tries again to meet her with a warm smile. He noticed how soft her hair was. God. He would like to touch it again. It was nice.
He starts to open his mouth to speak but Professor Barnes stands and the movement demands the attention of the class. So, instead, he offers Isla one last smile before turning his eye on the teacher. He was a little excited for the class now, the more she spoke. Barens made it sound like it might actually be a really cool year.
Whatever the question was that she asked however, he had missed entirely. Loce had answered it swiftly though... all while Theo's thoughts wandered back to the softness of Isla's hair under his fingers. Damn. Sharing classes with her might be more difficult than expected. But in a good way? He just really liked her honestly.
This train of thought leads him to smirk silently to himself. Thank god Isla couldn't read his mind. Or anyone for that matter. How embarrassing would that be?

Juniper was unsurprised that Loce was the one to pay keen attention to her hint and answer the question correctly. She was unsurprised that he was the first to speak up. She rewarded him with a nod and a few house points to acknowledge his comprehension and acumen. “Excellent, Mr. Vaisey. Five points to Slytherin.” Then she continues in a cool calm tone, "Yes, for today's lesson… You will be attempting the Disillusionment Charm.” Juniper’s underlying excitement was palpable if you were good at reading people. She was a new teacher but didn’t want to come across as naive and over-excited. She wanted to be liked but respected, so she was trying to walk that thin line. “This charm causes the target to blend seamlessly in with its surroundings, much like the defense mechanism of a chameleon.” “This is a tricky charm.” She states simply, “It requires complete focus and skill… but I have faith that each and every one of you can master it." She looks out at the wide, intrigued gazes of the students around her and she continues on, explaining the basics of the spell. “There are two methods of casting this charm. If one intends to use the charm on themselves, they must twirl their wand around themselves.” She demonstrates this movement with fluidity and grace as she speaks, “Almost as though you are wrapping yourself up in rope.” She drops her arm again and repositions herself, “If, however, you are using it on an external target, which will be the case for today, you must merely tap on the target with your wand.” Without even turning to look, she taps the desk behind her and the item nearly vanishes. There is somewhat of a gleam to the surface of where the item once stood plainly, which brings her to Gwendolyn Shaw’s question, “As you can see, Ms. Shaw, it has not been made entirely invisible. But…” Juniper smiles, “That is dependent on the skill of the witch or wizard who performs the charm, and wizards of rare skill, however, are able to cast it to such an effect as to render complete invisibility.” Wizards of the likes of the late, great, Albus Dumbledore…. Gellert Grindelwald and Voldemort had been known to have this skill. Juniper herself had actually succeeded only once in this, even at her skill level. Juniper nods to Gwne, “Five points to Gryffindor for an engaging question, Ms. Shaw.” Juniper emphasizes the importance of concentration, precise wand movements, and inner focus to achieve success, walking along the center of the room and back toward her desk slowly, “Often, it will be required of you to work in pairs in this class, and that starts today.” She looks around the room, “Normally, I would assume you are all capable and wise enough to choose your own partners… however, as I get to know you all, today I decided the pairs would be assigned.” Juniper had gone back and forth on this decision, but, she was getting to know these students and felt like this was a great way to both engage with them and test them. See who works well, and who doesn’t. See who rises to the occasion and who will fall short. She hoped to encourage collaboration and unity among the group. With a flick of her wrist, names begin to appear on the chalkboard, the enchanted chalk scribbling away mimicking her neat handwriting as it groups together names. G w e n d o l y n S h a w + L o c e V a i s e y B o i a n L o v e a n u e + I s l a R e i n h a r d t E z r a A n s e l + A m e r y n D a v i e s J a d i s R a v e n w o o d + O l i v e r O' S h e a T h e o C o l e + B e l l a m y S a f f r o n A n n e l i O d e n + R e e c e B r i a r w o o d
“And with that, you are free to leave.” Juniper claps her hands together, pleased. She figured it’d be more fun for them to go out and practice in their own preferred spaces. "With your partners, please take this time to practice the incantation and wand movements. Feel free to assist each other and remember, mistakes are an important and expected part of the learning process." Juniper advised with a warm smile. “Use the time between now and the next class to refine your skills.” She urges, “I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish as you will be expected to display for us all how well you’ve mastered the charm.”
If they didn't practice, it will be evident next class. Juniper was trusting them to be wise on their own time. This journey with them had only just begun, and Juniper couldn't wait to see how they would grow throughout the year.
